Build Up Detail

Alan R - The project has begun !!

We started at 8:30 on Saturday morning and by 3:00 that afternoon the only thing that remained was to remove the body. Sure would be nice if the reassembly could be done in that same timeframe!!! Now I'm looking for a few parts. The only body part that needs replacement is the windshield frame - - everything else is rust free. I'd also like to get all new weatherstripping, a new wiring harness and replacements for the turn and marker lenses. Any help on sources for these would be appreciated. I'd include some photos but it seems I still am unable to post attachments.

Guess it would help to include the year and model!!!! It's a 1972 scout II.

Right now I'm waiting to receive the windshield frame so I can make one trip over to have everything media blasted and primed. I plan on making it a driver but it will be show quality in every aspect except authenticity. Also, the person working on it with me wants to get his name out there as a restoration shop and this will kind of be his first advertisement. I want all the body and interior parts to be original but the engine and drive train will be modified. The project has had to take a break for a few weekends though due to my having to build a 40' X 30' deck behind my house. I had to do that or my wife was going to have grass installed and I HATE MOWING GRASS !!! Plus it interferes with working on the Scout!!

Originally I had planned to put in either a turbo motor from our builder in Jax. (around 800hp) or one of our 750hp naturally aspirated Super-Cat motors. After giving this a little more thought, (and factoring in that my wife would occasionally be driving it!!) I'm leaning more towards a Chevy 350 built to around 400hp. Talk about downsizing!!! I'm open to suggestions as to what has been used successfully on other Scouts as far as tranny and front/rear ends.

Here's the results of last Saturday's work. The body is 100% apart down to the last screw insert and loaded on the trailer to go to the blaster. I sure hope this is one of the last photos of the Chevy pulling the Scout!!! Now I'm trying to decide what axles to use. I got a few suggestions from Skunkwerks - - anyone here have any ideas/recommendations???

I want to stick with the stock width - - or at least as close to it as possible. I'm looking at going with whatever the next upgrade above stock turns out to be. I also have the next big decision lurking out there: WHAT COLOR TO PAINT IT!!!! Decisions, decisions!!
